Friday's Thought - Innovation

This Friday thought comes my own thinking about the necessary ingredients for innovation. I feel fortunate to have worked in organizations that have valued pushing the envelope on new ideas and services and from my experience, these four elements have been the key to success.

Got a innovation quote or thought that you love, please let me know in the comments. I’m always up for a bit of new wisdom.

A favorite quote comes to mind: Leadership is ulitmately about creating a way for people to contribute to making something extraordinary happen - Alan Keith

Innovation is creating something new that provides value to people.

If it isn't new (not necessarily an invention) or a new modification to something old than it's not an innovation - and it doesn't matter if it's new if it doesn't provide value to people.

I think it can help if you are passionate or talented, but I imagine we have people in our libraries who are neither but who simply listen and observe well and thus get ideas for innovations that do provide value.

Hello, we have read your post and we have been discussing what "ingredients"
could be more necessaries to innovate in a librarian context. We think that
creativity and effort are two essential elements in order to innovate, which
can be combined with a bit of ambition and being persistent until you really
get something new. That's all, thank you.
